Midnight Train

It’s almost midnight and the moon is pale

My heart beats fast as I tell this tale
On this very day once a year I will stumble
Upon a ghostly platform and hear a rumble

You’ll see a silver shimmering fog as it rolls
There’s no one at the engines controls
The destination ? "no one knows where it goes"
But many carriages are hitched and towed

The platform sign points to nowhere
No tracks no matter how hard you stare
But where you stand there always arrives
The biggest black steam train before your eyes

When the train finally comes to a steamy stop
Don’t look too hard or you’re eyes will pop
In each window wearing black eye masks
Are travelers, who are they ? you may ask

They may look to be your family or friends
But that’s distortion you may now meet your end
Do not engage, wave or even speak
They might think you are the victim they seek

The platform sign points to nowhere
No tracks no matter how hard you stare
But where you stand there always arrives
The biggest black steam train before your eyes

Four hundred and eighty seven  years ago
This train arrived and started to slow
Of eleven that boarded none survive
Not one traced back to ever being alive

Up to now few have seen the train
But some of those waiting still remain
Looking up at the clock and questioning why
The Guard waves a flag as the train passed by

The platform sign points to nowhere
No tracks no matter how hard you stare
But where you stand there always arrives
The biggest black steam train before your eyes

The train will never ever take you through
As their is no Driver, Stoker or crew
So if you ever see the locomotive
Stand well back from the silver mist

Do not board stand still until it s gone
And maybe then you can carry on
This classified legend leaves at midnight
In stories told by young and old alike

The platform sign points to nowhere
No tracks no matter how hard you stare
But where you stand there always arrives
The biggest black steam train before your eyes

It’s almost midnight and the moon is pale

My heart beats fast as I tell this tale
On this very day once a year I will stumble
Upon a ghostly platform and hear a rumble

All aboard All aboard
Stand clear stand clear
