Champions Armband

 After quickly becoming the leagues number one

I am challenged to sign for what has become

My signature to ride in a champions race

A world cup challenge and become an Ace

So I sign for the Aces and the captains armband

Take on Champions the best in the land

If I do well then I'll travel the world

Top trophies on offer " Yeah to be held"

My first meet at the top was greeted with cheers

My first ride butterflies coupled with fears

The tape went up to an adrenalin rush

Then an almighty silence " almost a hush"

The clutch had failed and didn't engage

My Team Mechanics fuming with rage

Put it down to bad luck, next heat go again

Drawn number 2 should make that bend

The starter engages the green to show

My start and the tape sets alight and we go

I make the first bend in 2nd but slide out in front

My traction and speed for others to hunt

I pull away for maximum points and the crowd

Start waving the flags and cheering out loud

The rest of the meeting went so cool as planned

Now Jimmy's truly the best in the land

Winning the world final in my 21st year

The best riders around were making it clear

The wanted to beat me on European tracks

The Boy now a man rides to the max

Now 1982  Twenty four years of age

Still riding at the top and on the world stage

I win the championship back home in L.A

Los Angeles California in The U,S of A

My family behind me always endeared

In the seven world finals that I have appeared

I have won four Championships "The pairs and  team Cups"

Riding my heart out" To never give up" 

Clocking double figures and topping score charts

Been the World champ and broken some hearts 

But now I'm ready to settle down

Still young but retiring back to my home town

Been offered parts by Hollywood

The start of something new from my neighborhood

Getting married to the girl of my sweetest dreams

One day maybe raise my own Speedway Team
