The Mirror

“Whose face is that looking back at me ?”

Can it be real “ who is it I see?”

There’s lines on her forehead and she has no smile

It feels like she has been through many a trial

Her eyes look tired and no longer shine

The crows feet marks are deep and define

Her brown hair is flecked with silver and grey

Perhaps she saw a glimpse of a ghost come her way

Her skin is pale with soft red veins

She looks quite aged with no goals to gain

Maybe she’ll fade away as daylight dies,

Love lies frozen deep inside her eyes.

“Whose face is that looking back at me ?”

Can it be real “ who is it I see?”

There’s lines on her forehead and she has no smile

It feels like she has been through many a trial

There’s a very strange resemblance of someone I knew

Could this be a relative that's trying to get through ?

The expression on her face is quite hard to explain

She hides behind a mask so you don’t see her pain

Oh my! Yes I see her now that woman in the mirror

Things are becoming clear when she gets a little nearer

She’s looking right at me ,she’s been there all the time

All my mothers features are now suddenly in mine

“Whose face is that looking back at me ?”

Can it be real “ who is it I see?”

There’s lines on her forehead and she has no smile

It feels like she has been through many a trial

It hits me like a train rolling off the tracks

I realize that my youth is never coming back

Time has taken over and my body’s not the same

My mind is stuck in the past but I’ve only myself to blame

So it’s time to get back to working on myself

I’m not ready to go back upon the shelf

So today’s the day that I will start to run and win

I’m going to turn another page and let a new chapter begin

So who's face do I see standing in front of me

Its the image of hope and what could be

Have I grown so old, Has my story been told

I hope there is more yet to unfold

Are these lines on my face just a taste

Of my future life about to embrace

Of what once appeared

And the Mother I feared
