Paper Round

Aint it funny how everything we love

Fades away like that wispy cloud above

Aint it peculiar how a warm summers day

Can be followed by rain and dismal grey

I'm not certain if love can last forever

Unless we pay installments on the never never

Have the fortunate never wept or cried

Are there victims so honest and never lied

As a child were you taught then told

That you were hated and left out in the cold

Did the punishments ever really fit the crime

Were you beaten down then had to pay a fine

Did your parents bring you up the right way

Were you silent and never allowed to say

Anything that maybe wasn't true

Was your existence sometimes sad but forever blue

Not allowed out to play or see your friends

Cast in solitude  until the bitter end

When they decided they needed an errand run

You the enemy" became the chosen one

As a child were you taught then told

That you were hated and left out in the cold

Did the punishments ever really fit the crime

Were you beaten down then had to pay a fine

I guess a deposit refund was never on the cards

Paper rounds and task were somewhat hard

I hated getting up so god dam early

Delivering News before school was surely

Not a good way to prepare for the day

I hated the Bag the weight and pitiful pay

As a child were you taught then told

That you were hated and left out in the cold

Did the punishments ever really fit the crime

Were you beaten down then had to pay a fine

It was dark when I woke at five

Never felt good to be awake or alive

Those times are still with me today

But if I'm asked how I am " I say ok"

How are you how are you

Yes ok I'm fine thank you

How are you? You stop and say

Yes I'm fine on this beautiful day

Hmmmmm Hmmmmm Hmmmmm Hmm Hmmm Hmm Hmm

Yes I'm fine thank you today

No paper round for me today
