Our church still stands with its tall steeple
After many years to greet more people
The last time that we stood inside
Was when we made our vows with pride
We dreamed of future happiness
With family joy and nothing less
We built bridges but also walls
Some cracks appeared but didn't fall
Our life was so different for us back then
Much simpler times way back when
A time of joy, love overflowed
Upon our altar love bestowed
We built them high we took our time
We wrote songs that didn't rhyme
I still remember when we walked together
Hand in Hand through Purple Heather
In the vast fields of Wheat and corn
Celebrating our first born
The sun shone brightly down on us
The breeze blew up the fields of dust
Our life was so different for us back then
Much simpler times way back when
A time of joy, love overflowed
Upon our altar love bestowed
I remember well our sweet beginnings
Our young heads were surely spinning
Moments we thought we had forever
Promises made we fought to treasure
Now sitting here with you again
Re-assured we meet again
Let’s talk and remember our lives now lost
And walk this path of light that’s cast
Let’s take a final step together
And find our place among the heather
Our life was so different for us back then
Much simpler times way back when
Let’s take a final step together
And find our place among the heather
