Not realizing My heart was breaking

The sound of silence the night was making

A lonely feeling empty alone

My shadow behind me cast in stone

So for now I'll drink to absent friends

and for one moment try to pretend

The songs I hear that are so blue

Are songs I used to sing with you

I never thought before tonight

I was living a lie and would need to fight

All my days of feeling so proud

Keeping feelings hidden never saying out loud

Every song I hear on the Radio

Is telling me things I already know

Lyrics so true and words unsaid

The same old lines " The ones I dread"

So for now I'll drink to absent friends

and for one moment try to pretend

The songs I hear that are so blue

Are songs I used to sing with you

I lay down every time you play

The Same old tunes without delay

Another hour without your love

Lost in a world where push comes to shove

Write me a song forgiving me

sit right down and sing it just for me

Sing me a line the way you do

under the willow for just us two

So for now I'll drink to absent friends

and for one moment try to pretend

The songs I hear that are so blue

Are songs I used to sing with you

I hope one day my heart will be

one more step toward a better story

I'm tired of singing the same old song

The radio plays for far too long

The songs of life that seem unfair

I wonder if you even really care

So for now I'll drink to absent friends

and for one moment try to pretend

The songs I hear that are so blue

Are songs I used to sing with you

So the lonely silence of the night

My shadow cast against the light

forgive me forever in a song my friend

My soul is yours to the bitter end

So for now I'll drink to absent friends

and for one moment try to pretend

The songs I hear that are so blue

Are songs I used to sing with you

The songs I hear that are so blue

Are songs I used to sing with you

The songs I hear that are so blue

Are songs I used to sing with you

I'll sing for you yeah sing for you

The songs I hear that are so blue
